Granite, like marble and other stones, is as old as the earth. Granite is the second hardest stone (diamond being the first) and is created from molten rock. It is found world wide, in countries such as Africa, Asia, Europe and the United States. In addition to its strength, granite is a very beautiful stone that adds color and warmth to a room. A frequent choice of designers for decades, granite countertops have now become popular with the public. There are literally hundreds of granite countertop colors including whites, browns, reds, greens, blues and black. The variations of the minerals in each base color creates hundreds more possible variations on the basic colors.
Home remodelers and home builders have experienced an explosion in the demand for granite countertops in kitchens and bathrooms. The beauty and warmth of granite makes it an ideal material for aesthetic appeal in home design. The natural beauty found in granite countertop colors complement any most tone of wood or style of cabinetry from rustic country to more contemporary styles.
Brown and beige tones are the most popular, as they work well with many kitchen color schemes and allows for flexibility in future redecorating. Today, the black and blue colors are becoming increasingly popular, with prices that reflect the demand. Some of the granite colors exhibit ""movement"" or a design within the natural color, while others possess small patterns. The combination of color and movement means that no two countertops look alike.
Opinions regarding the color that is best for a kitchen will vary. Dark cabinets can be warmed up with a light colored stone, while light colored cabinets can be anchored with a dark stone. When choosing the granite that will be added to a kitchen décor, it is best not to make selections from "chips" that the decorator or major retailer has on hand. There is so much variation in the color and movement in each stone that it is important to go to the supplier and look at each slab. The slab needs to be reserved at the time of decision, or it may not be available at a later time.
When shopping for granite countertop colors, it's not possible to locate a match for a specific name of a color found at a model home or mentioned in a decorating magazine. There is not a set list of names, or industry entity that regulates the names to be used. The country of origin will have its own name for each color, and then each of the suppliers, fabricators, installers and retailers will also have their own names. The numerous variations of color in each slab creates additional opportunities for new names. It takes research and visits to the suppliers to help simplify the process. Remember, it's not the name of the granite color that matters, it's the mineral qualities present in the stone.

Types of Home Air Purifiers
Room Air Purifiers Room air purifiers replaced tabletop units in the 1990s as the leading type of home air purifier. Tabletop units proved to be mostly ineffective, because of the inadequate volume of air being moved through the unit.
The Benefits of Owning an Ionic Air Purifier
Ionic air purifiers are not filter systems. Ionic air purifiers work by sending out negatively charged ions into the air of your home.
The Benefits of Ozone Air Purifiers
Ozone air purifiers or "ozone generators" are known for their effectiveness at reducing and masking the smells of new carpet and acrolein, a chemical partly responsible for the noxious odor of second-hand tobacco smoke. There are two types of ozone generators.
The Benefits of HEPA Air Purifiers
The military designed the first HEPA filter in the 1940s for use in the Manhattan Project, when safety from free-floating nuclear material was a primary concern. Today, HEPA air purifiers are very widely used to remove dust, pollen, mold, bacteria, and other airborne particles.
Which Air Purifier is Best For You?
Perhaps the best air purifiers are those from the IQAir line. These units are widely used in hospitals to eliminate mold, viruses, and bacteria.
The Importance of Home Air Filters
Many people are not aware that the air inside our homes is five times harmful than the air outside. Because of airtight home and office building constructions, the airborne pollutants are trapped inside, making the contaminated air unable to escape.
A Look at Electronic Air Filters
Many people mistakenly assume that an air conditioning only controls the temperature of a living space. Air conditioning also involves the cleanliness of the air.
What are HEPA Air Filters?
The Environmental Protection Agency has determined that almost 90% of the people spend their time indoors. This means that indoor air quality is much more important than outdoor air quality for most people.
How to Choose the Right Air Conditioner Filter
The air filter in an air conditioning system keeps the cooling coils and air inside the room clean and free from all pollutants, pet dander, ozone emissions and airborne particles. There are many different kinds of air filters available today, such as HEPA, standard, pleated, electrostatic and electronic filters.
An In-Depth Look at Air Filter Manufacturers
Because there are several air filter manufacturers on the market, it is helpful to be able to sort through the different manufacturers and products. The brief manufacturer/product profiles below are intended to help consumers do just that.
Jazz Up Your Room With Folding Screen Room Dividers
Using a room divider or folding screen can be a great way to create interest in an otherwise dull area. Contrary to what many believe, a room divider need not actually be used to divider a space.
Bathroom Vanity Cabinets
Bathroom vanity cabinets are considered bathroom furniture, and usually range from simple two door storage units with a wood veneer or a single color paint to exquisitely detailed richly carved hard wood cabinets, with hand applied finishes and marble inlay tops. The vanity cabinet is the place to start in adding sophisticated elegance to the bathroom, as it can and tie together the occasional disparate element between mirror and sink.
Bathroom Vanity Sinks
When shopping for a bathroom vanity sink, let both function and style be your guide. Bathroom vanity sinks must exist in unity with the cabinet and mirror.
What to Look for in Bathroom Vanity Tops
Bathroom vanity tops offer many options to the discerning customer. Ideally, they should all have a strong, smooth surface that defies stains and spills, mild heat and impact.
Contemporary Bathroom Vanities
Minimal, linear, often metallic and futuristic, contemporary bathroom vanities come in modern finishes such as brushed nickel and chrome, and are usually free of extraneous ornament and decoration. The result can be a synergistic blend of strength and beauty.
